Nordic Youth Teams Championship 2019
The Nordic Youth Teams Championship 2019 will take place from the 18th-21st of April 2019 in Nykøbing Falster, Denmark.
The championship is played in four different series:
- Under 26
- Under 21
- Under 16
- Under 26 Women
Championship format
U26, U21 and U26 Women
- Round-robin phase: A single round-robin among all eight teams is played, i.e., 7 rounds. Each match consists of 14 boards played in one session.
- The schedule of each round-robin is constructed such that in the first four rounds, each U21 team plays a U26 or U26 Women. In the next two rounds, each U26 team plays a U26 Women team. Under these restrictions, teams representing the same NBO play each other as early as possible.
- Gold medal matches: In the U21 class, the 1st and 2nd placed teams play for the gold and silver medals in a match of 3x12 boards. In the U26 and U26 Women classes, the two participating teams play for gold and silver.
- Bronze medal match: The remaining U21 teams play for the bronze medal in a match of 3x12 boards.
- For the playoff matches, there will be a carry-over of the aggregate imp score from the head-to-head matches in the round-robin. The team with the higher aggregate imp score in the head-to-head matches will receive half of the imp difference if they finished higher in the round-robin than their opponents, one third of the imp difference if they finished lower. However, the maximum carry-over will be 12 imps. The higher placed team will be the home team.
- Seating rights:
- In the round-robin, both teams must submit their line-up without knowing that of the opponents.
- In playoff matches, the home team chooses one session in which they have seating rights, and the away team gets seating rights in the other two sessions. The home team may pass on to the opponents the right to choose one session, thus getting seating rights in the other two sessions themselves.
U16
Four teams have signed up for the U16 class.
- Round-robin phase: A double round-robin is played, i.e., 6 rounds. Each match consists of 14 boards played in one session.
- The schedule of the each round-robin is constructed such that teams representing the same NBO play each other in the first round.
- Gold medal match: The 1st and 2nd placed teams play for the gold and silver medals in a match of 3x12 boards. Exception: If the 1st and 2nd placed teams represent the same NBO, the 1st and 3rd placed teams qualify for the gold medal match.
- Bronze medal match: The remaining teams play a bronze medal match of 3x12 boards. If one team represents an NBO having a team in the gold medal match, the other team will get the bronze medal and this match only serves as a consolation match.
- Carry-over and seating rights as in the U26+U21+U26 Women tournament.
Medals and the NBU Trophy
Medals will be awarded in all series.
For the NBU Trophy, each NBO designates one participating team in the U26+U21+U26 Women tournament. If an NBO does not explicitly designate a team for the NBU Trophy, by default it will be the U26, U21, or U26 Women, in order of priority.
The NBU Trophy is awarded to the NBO whose designated team was ranked highest after the round-robin phase of the U26+U21+U26 Women tournament.
